"So what do you mean? What's going to happen?" Ava Marie asked in a cajoling sort of way because she really was not taking this seriously.

Her best friend, Paula ignored Ava's doubt and continued, "No really, we were sitting through the blood and guts and all and he doesn't do a thing. Then a big black cat crosses the screen and he screams so loud that he actually frightens the entire movie theater, I mean plus I guess the cat may have gotten to the crowd too. But it was one of those times you get so scared, it was so over the top, you can only laugh uncontrollably."

"Now I'm not saying that anything will happen. I'm just warning you he gets boogered out sometimes. And it really seems odd that he picks times like when I've just watched Halloween or some really spooky movie, to somehow in his sleep, psychically connect. Like he's somehow warned in his sleep that I'm coming down the hall. You know, just in time for me to pass by his open bedroom door as he is slowing sitting up in bed like Michael Myers. Turning his head at me as I walk by."

"Of course it probably doesn't help that I get him scared to death making him watch Salem's Lot with me and then me being the one later on making crosses out of pipe cleaners and roaming the house, warding off bad spirits...This probably doesn't help the situation either." Ava laughed at the always unpredictable wisecrack Paula and shrugged off the coming evening at the McBride's.

Paula tried to lighten the mood and draw down her warning, if only really for herself, by reminding Ava that the first time she could remember her father shouting out her name, beckoning in his sleep, was when she was listening to Barry Manilow Live past bed time. "So really, anything is fair game I suppose", Paula quipped.

Later that night, about three in the morning, Tucker screamed out in his sleep. A terrified bellow of long, inaudible and menacing phrase rang through out the house. Ava overcome with the shock of being rudely awakened to the truth, ran for the longest window.
