Cougars released to control Coyote population.

Anyone smaller than an eight point deer best watch out!
This photo was taken by a motion activated hunting camera about 2 hours from here(By a Direct Family member). I guess the Game commission will have to own up to what they created. So What do you release to kill off the Cougars/Mountain Lions?
Hey Cougar Did you ever see one take out a huge Whitetail Deer? I remember a few months back talking about them. You had mentioned you have them in your backyard. :)

I had two in my backyard

One time, and that was enough for me.

I haven't heard of any sightings this year around here. There were a lot in 2008.

For all we know, they could be quietly living in the forest preserves eating themselves fat. Come to think about it I haven't heard anything about the over population of deer this year. Hmmmm? :)

Serendipity, For Sure

I just posted that I had not heard about any cougar sightings around me this year.

Lo and behold......

About town, I is, I is!

It's funny how they appear different colors by the light they're in. The ones in my yard appeared greyish, but it was dark

I believe Oruval and chief....Lets not forget Aya's Statement

Shoot shovel and shut up time. They will take out the food we need to survive!

The cougar population is going to explode

Because there is such abundant prey with deer overpopulation. And this is going to sound off the wall but the PTB want it that way.. It's taking away food from people who know how to survive when they close off the food supply. And populations will continue to grow until their is a balance.

Dick heads. Thinking cougars will actually kill coyote packs is a total joke.. they always attack easier prey first. AKA deer who haven't been accustomed to them in a long time.

To imagine that they are released in pairs.

I can't even fathom what will happen over time. The release point for the closest that we know of was 10 miles. They seemed to have followed the creek to the west of of us. Though my nephew heard one last year by his deer cam, right before deer season.

deer overpopulation? I would say from what i have seen the deer population is not anywhere near what it used to be. It used to be commonplace to see herds of 20-30 deer. Now it seems we all chase the same 6 deer around. Mr. Gary Alt(sp?) screwed this up years ago.

Poca's picture

Yes! I remember having 20-30 deer running around.

Isn't it amazing that the licenses that are being issued getting up to 3 doe tags? This has been mentioned up here as well. The state held them back and now they are issuing up to 3 at a time. I have seen the same deer here all late summer and fall. 1 6 point and two doe. Last yoear there were at least 3 buck, and random doe that traveled together. I have a feeling that the cats maybe wiping them out.

I commend the brilliance of the officials who decreed this a "good idea".

Poca's picture

I wish there was more knowledge of these things.

It seems that if you are not in there small loop, yu are not even aware of what they are releasing and why. Very difficult to keep up with, until it is too late. Of course the state says they have nothing to do with it. Last know cougar/mountain lion in existance in PA was killed in 1834.

My crazy neighbor informed me that there was a deer overpopulation problem around the are where I live. I imagine that it is primarily due to the freeway that they felt they had to do something.

So they introduced coyotes.

Now there are no deer, so the coyotes eat the rabbits and peoples farm animals.

Hmm and now it appears that coyotes are a *gasp* problem.

Who could have seen this coming?

Probably 95% of the people of the area who were willfully ignored no doubt.

Poca's picture

It amazes me that the coyotes were so over populated here.

They are a nuisance animal. You are aloud to shoot them for walking through your property. The ones here look just like a meduim to small dog, very clean and easy to mistake for a stray. They have coon hounds for them and they chase them away from the homes when they get too close.

Not sure where you are Poca, but here in Central PA, we constantly hear reports from all over the state about mountain lions. (Cougars)The Game commision vehimately denies their existance. Despite all the eyewitness reports and the several animals killed." this is just a pet that got loose." Bovine Excrement if you ask me....

Hi Bright

That's exactly how Illinois reacted. Claiming sightings were people's imagination. (right)

It still makes me angry how that cowardly Chicago LEO shot the cornered cougar last year. They found out it came all the way from South Dakota.

We are northern PA...

The Picture is in Bradford PA! That is what is so funny! They consistantly deny it is RIGHT! One of them lives west of us and he was on the release load! It was attacking the neighbors horses! Now that is a big Kitty!

Kill that damn thing.

Predators like that will decimate everything if they are well fed and have a few litters. Look at what little cats do to wild life when they get loose from their owners. Now think of a big cat.

Hey!!

Cougars are beautiful animals, not to be destroyed.

Oh yeah Oruval that is the kicker!

You can not kill them. They are protected in PA. I would assume if they try to kill you, or your animals you could get away with it. How fast exactly would you have to be to survive a hunting cat? LOL! I am sure the cat would win. Unless you had backup armed at all times.

Poca, that's why there is a saying in Montana "shoot, shovel, and shut up." ;)
