![]() There is more and more evidence stacking up that the H1V1 virus sometimes triggers a cytokine storm, essentially your own immune system killing you. It may very well be the deadliest thing about our ~new~ flu. While I hesitate to point this out, it may very well save your life if the worst comes apon us. There is a quick, simple, over-the-counter drug that has proved in experiments to stop a cytokine storm in its tracks. Nicotene. In any form, in your bloodstream. While I do not advocate picking up a smoking habit, please remember this. It may help later. :) |

i knew there was a reason why I saved the last 4 packs from the last carton I bought at the end of February. I know how disgusting those are going to taste so that should make sure if I had to resort to that I wouldn't want to start it up again.
Well...
I've smoked and not smoked in my life (I'm not a good smoker... I sometimes take breaks for a year or a decade) so I understand whatcha mean.
However, I'd go through the withdrawls again if it meant living and not having to take the vaccinations coming, if you know what I mean. My immune system is freakishly good... so it turned against me scares the hell outa me.
Although Khomar had a really good point... I'ma get and stash some nicotene patches.

Yeehaw!!
*Puff puff*
Just remember though that liquid nicotine is poisonous.
That is very interesting. I am curious. You said that tobacco leaves were originally used to heal cuts or burns. Would this introduce enough Nicotine into your body to fight off the attack? Also, there are always patch or gum options, I would imagine, instead of taking up smoking (and all that comes with it).
I would imagine so.
And thank you for pointing out gum and patch options.
However, the easiest way would be to smoke it or chew it...
Not Skoal (ack) but real tobacco. You could also make a tea of it, although I would assume that it would be quite horrible and very ineffective as far as getting nicotene into the bloodstream.
The reason I brought this up is that ricin (the bio-weapon) kills by cykotine storm. We were told in the military that if all else failed and the bioweapon was indeed a ricin or derivitive, light up.
~Live life to its fullest... with open arms, an open heart and most importantly, an open mind.~
Correct Me If I'm Wrong
But, I thought the intent of smoking the cigarette was to expel any mucous build up in your lungs, and to more or less coat your lungs with the nicotene.
LIVE and let live.
Well...
I always thought the intent of smoking was to vastly shorten your lifespan while scarring your lungs as much as possible to lower your oxygen levels. Then there are the wonderful side-effects...
Here is a link for you on the nicotene part tho...

I knew about this before, but thought it just an old wive's tale. As far as smoking and ricin, that is.
~Live life to its fullest... with open arms, an open heart and most importantly, an open mind.~
It might not hurt to buy some nicotine gum or patches just to have around in case of such a thing. I personally don't like the idea of breathing smoke into my lungs! ;-)
Thanks for the tip.
Here's my remedies, and some info on the cytokine storm
I know it says there is a danger of using Elderberries but after some research this is not certain and I would take my chances with elderberries before I would take the vaccine. Here is what the author of the recipe says about it:
"so far it seems that the cytokine storm usually occurred in about 50% of the infected people and 50/50 chance is not that bad, plus that is WITH taking the traditional antivirals like Tamiflu. >From what I can find, elderberrys SLIGHTLY boost the immune system, but there have been no definitive testing on this effect nor does traditional medicine know what actually triggers a cytokine storm, they are still investigating so there iare no percentages or figures on immune system strength or number of T-cells, etc that trip the cytonike switch. For now, in the absence of any hard, proven documentation, me and mine and many others are planning on taking the gamble on elderberry cause we know that it is, right now, the only thing that seems to mitigated and help prevent infection of INfluenza A and B virus. It's one of those areas where each has to make their personal decisions, and unfortunately, based on incomplete information."
Here is a link for how to make Elderberry tincture also a good thread to read. You may find them at your local health food or herbal store.
http://www.thetreeofliberty.com/vb/showthread.php?s=0efbec10b4f0cf94c3a0...
Here is another recipe for a remedy thats been around a long time by the pioneer of herbal medicine Dr Christopher if you can't get elderberries to make tincture I highly recommend this. This should be in your preps anyways.
It is called Anti- Plague or the Four Thieves. They had to change the name from Anti- plague because of the FTC I believe.
Dr. John R. Christopher received the following formula while prayerfully seeking to answer a question posed to him during a lecture in Snowflake, AZ. The topic was on the plagues prophesied in the last days and the question
was whether there was an herbal formula that could counter the plagues. Inspired with this formula, Dr. Christopher said to prepare gallons of it to assist family and neighbors. Three months after the lecture, Dr. Christopher received a phone call reporting that the Snowflake area was hit by a very hard flu that took the life of some children, but that this formula restored the health of all who used it.
Make a coarse blend of garlic in apple cider vinegar and store it in a dark, cool place for four days. Filter the blend in cotton, muslin cloth and squeeze out as much garlic juice as possible. Ultimately you will use 8 parts of apple cider vinegar and 2 parts fresh garlic juice, so use enough garlic to obtain your proportion and record the amount of vinegar used as part of its proportion and to calculate the amount of garlic juice expressed (2 to 3 pounds of garlic is a good range to use for one gallon of Super Garlic Immune). It takes
approximately 1 pound of garlic to extract 8 oz. of juice.
Make a seventh power, distilled water decoction of each of the following herbs. Each herb should be prepared
separately.
2 parts Comfrey root decoction
1 part Wormwood herb decoction
1 part Lobelia herb or seed decoction
1 part Marshmallow root decoction
1 part White Oak bark decoction
1 part Black Walnut bark or husk decoction
1 part Mullein leaf decoction
1 part Skullcap leaf decoction
1 part Uva-Ursi leaf, hydrangea, or gravel root decoction
If you consider one part of the formula to equal 4 ounces of solution you will produce approximately three and ¾
quarts of finished product. For one part herbs, according to this ratio, soak 4 ounces of the herb for four
hours or more in enough distilled water to cover it completely.
After soaking, add enough distilled water to bring the amount of solution to 16 ounces.
Simmer the herbal solution over very low heat in a covered pan for thirty minutes. Strain the liquid into a clean pan and reduce the amount of liquid to ¼ (4 oz. for the one part herbs) by
simmering uncovered over very low heat. Set each aside till all are prepared (refrigerate if not completed on the same day).
Warm to liquid state: 5 parts unfiltered, raw honey and 5 parts U.S.P. grade vegetable glycerine and the remainder of the vinegar and then add all your decoctions, mix well, let cool and store in dark bottles.
Refrigerate for long term storage.

> One other thing I want to mention is apple cider vinegar, take a table spoon 3 times a day this helps keep the body in an alkaline state were disease cannot reside. We often take it in shot glass. Another way to take it is to mix it in a cup of water with lime or lemon juice from half a lime or lemon and a eighth teaspoon of cayenne pepper, throw in some colloidal silver and you have a pretty good health/immune cocktail.
> I will do this same mixture in 16 -32 ounces in a water bottle and just drink a 3rd of it three times a day or when ever I feel the need. It will also give you energy. I woke up the other day feeling like a was coming down with a cold and stuffed up scratchy throat and drank about 8 ounces of this and instantly the symptoms were gone. You can work up to about a quarter teaspoon of cayenne ( you get used to it pretty quick) cayenne will boost the effects of other herbs and has even been known to bring people out of heart attacks really helps with blood circulation among other things.

>> Regular readers know that I have no time for the nonsense relating to imagined bird-flu pandemics. However. I regarded the following item of sufficient novelty to be of some interest. You may judge its merits for yourself.
>>
>> Research suggests certain natural foods may be as effective against virus H5N1 as commercial antivirals.
>>
>> (PRWEB) May 10, 2006 -- A Biology teacher from Australia, named Stephen Jones, has done extensive research into the H5N1 virus and compiled a list of natural foods that are effective against it and listed others that are detrimental.
>>
>> The list may come as a surprise to many people since foods such as spirulina and echinacea are listed as detrimental. This strange occurrence is largely due to the fact that the virus is immune to 2 cytokines that the body produces (TNF-a and IL-6). Cytokines are compounds produced by the body’s immune system that attack and remove foreign bodies. The problem is that when a foreign body is immune to certain cytokines, the body sees that its immune response is not working and tries even harder, which can lead to what is called a cytokine storm, where the body becomes flooded with these compounds and they eventually destroy the body itself. Foods such as Echinacea actually stimulate the production of these specific cytokines; hence consuming it is not a good idea if one suspects they may have the virus.
>>
>> During the 1918 Spanish Flu many healthy young people died from cytokine storms due to their immune systems overreacting. Consuming foods which suppress the production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6 and enhance the production of the ones that actually are effective against the virus will aid the patient greatly.
>>
>> Other foods that create mucous in the respiratory tract, such as bananas, are also listed as detrimental due to the fact that the predominant breeding ground of the virus is the respiratory tract and another way in which a patient may suffer is due to the body's over production of mucous in this area.

>> Folk Medicines and Herbs to use and avoid with Bird Flu
>>
>> Below is a list of foods that are said to contain substances that are natural antivirals, immune boosters or they decrease cytokines TNF-a and IL-6.
>>
>> Alternative medications that are most likely to help us during a severe pandemic:
>>
>> Garlic (allicin) - Very effective antiviral. Best if fresh (raw) and crushed. Must be consumed within 1 hour of crushing. Dosage is initially 2 to 3 cloves per day but later reduce until no body odour occurs. No toxic effects noted. (Pubmed PMID 9049657)
>>
>> Vitamin C - Boosts the immune system and is an antiviral by blocking the enzyme neuraminadase. Viruses need neuraminadase to reproduce. There are anecdotal stories of people taking large amounts of Vitamin C (children ½) surviving the Spanish Flu. Research shows that it may reduce the production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. A study on 470 people involved giving the test group 1000 mg hourly for 6 hours and then 1000 mg 3 times daily after reporting flu symptoms. Symptoms decreased by 85%. (Pubmed PMID 10543583, 634178, 16169205, 12876306)
>>
>> Green Tea (possible Tamiflu/Relenza alternative)- Very effective antiviral. Also decreases the production of the cytokine (catechins) TNF-a. Inhibits neuraminidase. May have antiviral activity that is equal to other antivirals such as Tamiflu. (Pubmed PMID 16137775)
>>
>> St Johns Wort (Hypericum) - Very effective antiviral. Also decreases the production of the cytokine IL-6. Hypericum is an extract from St John’s Wort. There have been some very successful field trials in commercial flocks infected with H5N1 in Vietnam. (Pubmed PMID 7857513, 11518071, 11362353, 7857513, 11518071)
>>
>> Vitamin E - Immune booster. Also decreases the production of the cytokine TNF-a. (Pubmed PMID 155882360, 10929076) Experiments involved using mice. Very suitable for immune compromised people, especially the elderly. Effects enhanced when taken with Vitamin C.
>>
>> Apple Juice - Antiviral. Fresh apple juice including the pulp and skin has greater antiviral activity than heated commercial apple juice. More research is needed. Effectiveness on H5N1 is unknown. (Pubmed PMID 32832, 12452634)
>>
>> Resveratrol - Antiviral. In addition to inhibiting neuraminidase, Resveratrol also sends a message to cells to stop manufacturing viruses. This is a proven antiviral found naturally in red wine, peanuts, mulberries, Japanese Knotwood root (richest source), raisins and red grapes. Resveratrol supplements are relatively inexpensive, are more stable than wine and is available in liquid form for absorption in the mouth. No toxic effects noted. (Pubmed PMID 1583880, 12817628, 15985724)
>>
>> Scuttellaria (Skullcap) - Antiviral. A herb used as a tea. It has no side effects and is also a mild tranquilliser. Research suggests neuraminidase, which is a substance needed by the H5N1 virus to reproduce, may be inhibited.
>>
>> Cranberry Juice - Early research shows that it may be an antiviral, making viruses less able to invade or multiply. Effectiveness on H5N1 is unknown. (Pubmed PMID15781126)
>>
>> Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) - Decreases the production of the cytokine TNF-a. Also boosts immune system. The number of white blood cells was significantly increased during treatment. No toxicity was noted. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...arch&DB=pubmed) Active constituents can be found in the leaves, bark, vine, and roots. Water extraction from bark used. Children and pregnant women are to avoid. Has a potentially damaging effect on the DNA of proliferating cells. (cancers, foetuses, growing children)
>>
>> Curcumin (Tumeric Spice) - Decreases the production of the cytokine TNF-a. This is the yellow compound in turmeric spice. Research shows that this may be very good for preventing a cytokine storm although this is not proven. Must be taken with food or gastritis or peptic ulcers may occur. Pregnant women and feeding mothers should avoid this. The medicinal properties of curcurnin cannot be utilised when used alone due to rapid metabolism in the liver and intestinal wall. When combined with Piperine found in black pepper the absorption is increased with no adverse effects. Obtainable from health stores in tablets, liquid, capsules already combined with piperine. Dosage is 500mg to 4000mg daily.
>>
>> Astragalus root (Astragali Radix) - Boosts immune system. (Pubmed PMID15588652)
>>
>> Tea tree Steam Inhalation - Reduces the cytokine TNF-a. Add 2 drops of tea tree oil in a bowl of steaming water. Cover head with a towel and inhale for 5 to 10 minutes. Relieves congestion and fights infection. Its effectiveness is unknown. (Pubmed PMID 11131302)
>>
>> The following substances may be best to avoid during a H5N1 pandemic
>>
>> Elderberry juice (Sambucal) - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. This substance is very effective against the common flu but may not be desirable for the H5N1 virus. Increases in these cytokines may trigger a lethal cytokine storm. (Isr Med Journal2002 Nov;4:944-6)
>>
>> Micro Algae (Chlorella and Spirulina) - AVOID - Increases production of cytokine TNF-a. (Pubmed PMID 11731916)
>>
>> Honey - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID12824009)
>>
>> Chocolate - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID 12885154, PMID 1091792
>>
>> Echinacea - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. Although it is often used for normal flu, research shows that it may increase the chance of cytokine storms for H5N1. (Pubmed PMID 15556647, 9568541)
>>
>> Kimchi - AVOID - Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID15630182)
>>
>> Dairy products & Bananas - AVOID - These foods increase mucous production.

Hmmmm
Elderberries....check, they grow all around my house. Already have a tincture made up of their flowers for hay fever
Comfrey....check it growing in my garden
Wormwood....seeds check, I chose not to plant any this year due to space but I have the seeds
Lobelia....aka Indian Tobacco, none that I have seen around here planned on ordering some for next year
Marshmallow Root...check, growing in the garden. Already used it and some other herbs (boneset, hyssop, horehound, yarrow, thyme, spearmint) to make up a cough syrup the other day
White Oak and Black Walnut....check, they grow everywhere around here
Mullein and Skullcap are two things that I have been hunting for around here and cannot find any. Guess I'll have to grow some myself
Tons of gravelroot and hydrangea around here
Honey is a big check, my landlords are beekeepers so I get the added benefit of getting honey made in my locality.
have glycerine already on hand and have plenty of vinegar that we use for washing clothes.
I'm not worried though, about 2 years ago my body decided that it didn't need to get sick anymore. But if for some reason it decides it wants to I have plenty of herbs and concoctions waiting for it.
