~STARVE THE BEAST~

Karl Denninger is offering a passive way to protest our out-of-control government that can have a profound impact if enough people get on board.

It's gonna take some work

In addition to reducing your consumption, start attempting to persuade merchants with whom you do regular business to try to reduce THEIR tax liabilities.

Discounting -- coupons, sales, loss leaders -- are standard promotional events whereby a merchant offers extraordinary savings to move excess merchandise or to stimulate foot traffic and cash flow.

Sales taxes are levied on nominal cash receipts, and not on perceived value.

Taxable income (Fe'ral, state, county &c...) is based on the difference between the nominal cost of goods and their nominal sales price, denominated in US currency -- whether the transactions are electronic, paper drafts from your checking account, or tendered CASH IN HAND.

Ask every one of the locally owned merchants with whom you do business if they would like to reduce their tax burden by accepting United States legal tender gold and silver coins and paying their statutory obligations based on the nominal value of these legal tender coins. Don't bother with the big boxes -- they're too intimate with the Fe'ral Reserve and they dare not defy their corporate masters.

Let's use THEIR money and THEIR rules to remove THEIR hands from OUR throats.

I agree with Karl, and have been actively participating on all points for over a year now.

Me Too

I am very frugal in my spending, always have been. I really think this could "leave a mark" so to speak, providing enough people take it seriously.

I didn't see where he said anything about cash vs credit card. That's another way to help with the frugal spending. I have heard that the people who do cash spend on average about 20 percent less than those who use credit card. I have really noticed it in our spending since we switched to cash. We use our card for paying at the pump or emergencies but that's it. The rest is in cash and when the cash is gone, so is the spending.

Absolutely!

I remember years ago, young couples trying to spend within their budgets would freeze their credit cards in a big block of ice in their freezer. It was there in case of an emergency, but it wasn't a convenient choice.

Now days, with "pay at the pump" situations, you could use your debit card, as an alternate to the credit card.

The biggest problem with debits is that I have read that sometimes they freeze more cash than they are taking out and it can really mess up your account. I don't know how accurate it is but it makes me hesitant to use it all the same.

W-4 adjustment

My husband does that.

Well, we are halfway there. We still need to work on the eating out thing, because it is helps in keeping the house clean for showings. Once we move, we probably won't be eating out much at all. Still... maybe this is the last push to actually start putting a dent in that dining out budget.

The other hard thing is our with holdings since we seem to keep adding a new one every year.

I think 9

is all you can claim these days....care to try for 9? ;)

I know people that used to claim 17...they were in the IBEW, so don't know if that had something to do with it...I don't think you can claim 17 anymore...dunno. Probably a huge red flag.

I just checked, and we are currently at 8 (between the children, the mortgage, and other deductions... which hopefully we will be getting rid of soon). So, I guess we don't have much farther to go.

We'll see what happens with five although after a point it's kind of like "oh, there's another one in here somewhere?"
