![]() I've had several requests in email to explain what cap & trade really REALLY means in terms of your wallet. I've a quick synopsis.... The constraints posed by the Lieberman-Warner cap-and-trade approach is equivalent to a constant (in percentage terms) consumption decrease of about 1% each year, continuing to 2050. Put another way, the cap-and-trade approach is the equivalent of a permanent tax increase for the average American household, which was estimated to be $1,100 in 2008, would rise to $1,437 by 2015, to $1,979 in 2030, and $2,979 in 2050. The price for energy paid by the American consumer also will rise. The studies reviewed showed electricity prices jumping 5-15% by 2015, natural gas prices up 12-50% by 2015, and gasoline prices up 9-145% by 2015. As an illustration, gasoline would suffer a 16 cent price increase per gallon at the low end of the estimates to a $2.58 penalty at the high end (using the January 2009 reported retail price of $1.78 per gallon). What it also does is lower our GDP each and every year. It will cost us somewhere around 2 million jobs in the first few years by making sure that manufacturers go elsewhere. Like China or Brazil, which they are already doing. It will cripple us... forever. The devil is also in the details here... for instance, you will no longer be able to get your appliances repaired: you will have to purchase new, energy-efficient ones. What does that mean to your pocketbook? A typical dishwasher now costs $175... an energy-efficient approved model will cost you roughly $1000. Got a hot tub? It falls into this category as well.. you will need to replace yours. Also your water dispenser, if you have one. Same with your refrigerator. The list is mind-numbingly large and all-invasive. Do cap & trade programs work? As far as lowering emissions, no. Countries that now have cap & trade programs actually have an INCREASE in emissions. As far as economically? Nope.. Australia, for instance, is now dismantling thier program because of the massive devastation it has done to thier economy. This is the single largest tax levied on the American people in the history of the United States. Another irony is that 15% of the revenues generated by this is going to be sent to India and China... as an incentive to those countries to develope thier own emissions programs. Yea, China's going to jump on that... lol. It is also structured exactly like the boiling frog fable... a nice and steady tightning of the clamps from now until 2050. If this passes, we need to either have a rather large tea party... or just cave and tell our children sorry, you're screwed. Forever. |

I'm just happy that Al Gore got to make all kinds of money from Occidental Petroleum and now from the largest carbon credit trading firm effectively playing both sides and making money hand over fist.
He deserves it!
All this stuff ir unenforceable on individuals for the most part. Any anyone taking a job as an agent to enforce this ought have the fear of god put into them. But you're correct this will drive what's left of our business and manufacturing base to other countries if even that. This just accelerates the depression.
Which is fine with me at this point. The only thing that will wake the sheeple is when the pain gets bad enough.
Um...
Not enforceable on individuals....
An individual, to simply live, will pay into it through utilities, goods, services and merely surviving.
It doesn't have to be enforced.. they are taxing you for breathing.
After all, the only way you can not pay this tax is to totally get off of the grid... or quit breathing.

I agree with you. I should have been more specific. What I mean is like making you upgrade your refrigerator stuff like that. The free market will find ways around this like with HHO gas, ethanol, and off grid power etc.. Even paying taxes. The more pain they inflict the more people will find ways to avoid and minimize it.
If they inflict enough pain there will be an open revolt. But there is always a revolt going on mostly underground at the moment. I think in the long run this is good for us. The more people turn to the free market commonly called the black market (isn't interesting how they demonize everything with labels) the more they will see the fallacy of this sort of thing
Oop!
I was a lil confused then.. you are exactly correct.
If you take free market ~away~ from the citizens, they will merely make thier own. Outlawing it will just make it more popular. We all saw how Prohibition worked out...lol.
So yes, it will work in the favor of people who just want to be free.

ah well.
this world as it is now... won't see 2012 let alone 2050. let's see ... we're gonna start to have power grids going by the end of this year. with big blackouts next year. with full darkness coming in 2011.
so the retards can tax away.
there's my cheer for today. :)
Gee thanks!
Love it when you're all rosy and farting rainbows and glitter... lol.
Want a real chat tonight?
~Live life to its fullest... with open arms, an open heart and most importantly, an open mind.~
i'll bring wine.
:)
lol.

i'm a real ball of cheer right now! i'm like jesus before he got his runner of inspiration to go to egypt. (nine faces of christ reference.)
it'll pass. :)
Really?
Krmaya farts rainbows? OK, we HAVE to invite her to our next NDN party here at the hose!
And ya, it'll pass... but I'm like you now. The time for running around screaming that the sky is falling has pretty much passed.. the only thing I'ma do now is help those already awake, if I can.

I'll be there rainbow, glitter and all!
The yolk is becoming heavy.
"The intrusive push with no regards to the people makes me want more of the same. More you ask. Am I a mad man..?
Well at the point of ever growing attack on freedom, I'm at that point where anarchy in it's true form is better than the chains of control.
If you want that false world of freedom so as to keep the norm going for as long as possible then I suggest you wish for my death, because as long as I'm here I feel the process of larger more intrusive government being pushed forward is the only way to stop the machine."

Well...
we need a spark. Dunno what it's going to be, but we need it.
FAST.
So I agree with you... let's see how much pressure that unemployed people with children to feed (and guns) can take.
