Political Ponerology: A Science on the Nature of Evil adjusted for political purposes

This book came to my attention 2 years ago but has landed at my feet again. The science of "evil" as we call it is fascinating. It's helpful to read this man's info since it's written by someone who worked in the heart of darkness.

**Pathocracy: a system wherein a small pathological minority takes control over a society of normal people

That was a very interesting read -- especially toward the end of the second page. It describes what is happening in America very well including the degradation of our society and the unwillingness for people to understand or accept what they see happening around them as true evil. I see it in my own life: I don't speak up much in public against outrages because I know that I am likely to bring harm upon my reputation and livelihood. We are conditioning ourselves toward pathology and accepting evil as the new norm.

The thing I find interesting, however, is that much of this is actually predicted and explained in the Bible. There is a sense in which this is very much tied into the Selfishness thread in that it is our very selfishness that drives the need to conform to pathology and the benefits it brings. Stepping out of ourselves and living for truth and justice -- a very dangerous practice in this day and age -- and actually showing love to those around us is to go against the mainstream and stand in the way of the pathology.

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
(Mat 7:13-14 ESV)

OOP...

Interesting! Guess I need to find Stout's The Sociopath Next Door too...

Dr. Stout's book has one of the longest explanations as to why none of her examples resemble any actual persons that I have ever read. And then, in a very early chapter, she describes a "composite" case where the subject spent his childhood blowing up frogs with fire-crackers. It is widely known that George W. Bush did this, so one naturally wonders...
