Hi out there!

Hope y'all are well. I'm just sitting here with my morning coffee and thinking about things. There's this really weird situation happening in life that could use some thought. My daughter Alicia is dating a man who has had two previous physically abusive relationships with women and who cannot understand why my daughter doesn't behave violently toward him. Stuck in a pattern, it seems, he tries to methodically push her buttons in order for her to give him a negative response...to blow up...to react on him.... As if he wants her to hit him.

That's pretty strange. Why would someone actually want that I don't know. My former husband was the same though. Almost like he desired it deeply.

I rarely speak about my dad. Perhaps it's because he and my mother divorced when I was fourteen and he went away on a semi-perm basis to start his career as the "coffee shop guy". He also remarried beginning a new family.

As the "coffe shop guy" he's worked on his character over 30 for years to ultimately fulfill what you'd expect to chat with if you sat on a stool next to him at Dunkin Donuts. Waking at 3am every day, he makes his rounds to all the breakfast places in St. Bernard Parish talking to everyone about anything. Politics, current affairs, gossip or just to tell a very elaborate story. He's great entertainment.

I think pretty much everyone can see that this site barely has a pulse at all. Everyone seems to be taken in different directions these days, and it does not seem like there is much for us to talk about here.

I have been praying and thinking about this for a while, and I have decided that when this site comes up for renewal in March, I will not be renewing it for another year. If someone else wants to take ownership of the site, I am more than happy to transfer ownership, and I'll continue to check it out and join in as I can.

It has been a great few years with many challenging posts, great thoughts, and spirited discussions. I learned a great deal, and it has sharpened my mind as well as my heart. I am much richer for having known all of you, and I hope that, in other forums and places, we are able to keep in touch with one another.

This is a fantastic video that summarizes a lot of what is going on. I feel the need to construct my own response video with some of my own research that backs up a lot of what he says and may point him in a new direction. In the meantime, take a look and tell me what you think:

This is a fantastic rap song about Austrian and Keynesian economics.

In Fear the Boom and Bust, John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek, two of the great economists of the 20th century, come back to life to attend an economics conference on the economic crisis. Before the conference begins, and at the insistence of Lord Keynes, they go out for a night on the town and sing about why there's a "boom and bust" cycle in modern economies and good reason to fear it.

This is a powerful speech that resonates strongly with the issues we face today. If only we had listened to him then.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, here is the complete speech given on August 28, 1963.

So much of what he said then applies to our world and our problems today and our fight for liberty and justice.

"Grab some clothes and get into the van, now."

For an instant, that directive, and the tone in which it was issued, had the opposite of its intended effect: Korrin and our five older children, momentarily paralyzed by shock, looked at me in alarm. There was something in both the tone of my voice, and the expression on my face, that was new and a little frightening. None of them had seen my "game face" before. They were seeing it now.

Just seconds earlier, Korrin and I had been confronted on our doorstep by two very nice, well-dressed women who informed us that an anonymous "child endangerment" complaint had been filed with the Child Protective Services.

One of the visitors was a social worker we've known for several years, and consider a friend. The other was a stranger who introduced herself as a CPS investigator. She intended to inspect our home and speak with our children.
